Aim to be the operator, partner and employer of choice in Ghana

Aker Energy Alt 6387

Jan Arve Haugen, CEO of Aker Energy, has high ambitions for Aker Energy as the organisation moves ahead to deliver an offshore ultra-deep-water project in record time.

Aker Energy has entered into an agreement with Hess to acquire all the shares in the operating company of the Deepwater Tano Cape Three Points block and will indirectly hold a 50% participating interest in the license. The company has received the necessary governmental approvals and expects the transaction to close soon, but the company has already worked intensely for months to progress the Plan of Development (PoD) for the Pecan field for submittal in second half of 2018.

First oil in 2021

“We have taken on some very bold ambitions, but nothing is impossible with a team like ours. A team that is built on decades of oil and gas know-how and expertise from projects and operations all over the world. We are committed to develop the Pecan field to produce first oil in the last quarter of 2021,” says Jan Arve Haugen, CEO of Aker Energy.

Haugan joined Aker Energy in March 2018, after heading Kvaerner ASA since 2011, a leading provider of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services that delivers offshore and onshore installations around the world.

“Navigating Kvaerner through the recent market turmoil in the oil and gas industry has naturally been both challenging and exciting, and I hope to apply these learnings to help establish a leading oil and gas operator offshore Ghana going forward,” says Haugan.

Building a culture of tolerance

Prior to the years at Kvaerner, he served in a number of leading roles in Norsk Hydro since 1991. He finished off his long tenure in Hydro as the CEO for Qatar Aluminium, (Qatalum), a joint venture between Norsk Hydro and Qatar Petroleum. The company developed the six billion dollar project and now operates one of the largest primary aluminium plants built in one phase, located in Mesaieed Industrial City in Qatar.

“Having worked with people from all walks of life and different cultures throughout my career, I have learned one particular thing: By cultivating a working environment that tolerates and respects all cultures, that welcomes bold and innovative ideas and is founded on values like highest safety standards, complete transparency and high performance, then organisations of any size and blend can achieve great things, says Haugan.

He adds: “Similarly, at Aker Energy we will accomplish all of our ambitious goals if we manage to create a culture where everyone is pulling in the same direction. This in effect sums up what I spend most of my time on at the moment.”
