We are looking for a Senior Communication Advisor to strengthen our organisation and to support development of our oil discovery offshore in Ghana. The Communication Advisor will be based in Bærum, Norway and be responsible for building and maintaining the public image of the organisation.

Responsibilities and tasks

The role requires an experienced writer and storyteller who can form compelling messages to promote and safeguard Aker Energy’s reputation as the company grows. You will deliver top-notch editorial content for internal and external use for social media and the company website. Other key deliveries include presentations and speeches for senior management. You will also be handling inquiries and proactively engaging with the press.

  • Write and edit public documents, speeches, talking points and other products (including social media)
  • Serve as primary liaison with internal partners like executive management, legal, compliance, HR and technical departments
  • Responsible for Aker Energy’s emergency preparedness procedures written communications; including leading and developing trainings, exercises etc. in collaboration with HSSE and external advisors
  • Lead organisation of visits from high-level partners and authorities in Ghana
  • Lead planning and organising Aker Energy’s participation at relevant conferences
  • Provide communications advice to other staff
  • Implement and evaluate communication plans, media handling and experience
  • Create marketing and communication plans to support Aker Energy’s strategy
  • Analyse media coverage and other feedback to advise officers and members on future communications activity
  • Develop effective communications strategies, holding statements, Q&As etc. relating to a range of issues and targeting a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to write accurate and engaging material in a variety of styles and formats for a wide range of stakeholders, and to interpret specialist/technical information in plain English for a variety of audiences
  • Attend management meetings and other high-level meetings to offer advice and agree upon communication activities in addition to managing project work

Qualifications & personal attributes

  • University degree, e.g. communication/journalism, business, technical
  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, consulting or related industry
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing strategic communications campaigns in various channels
  • Proven experience in providing strategic communications advice and support to senior staff
  • Extensive experience in providing communications advice in a highly political environment and on sensitive issues
  • Experience in writing and producing a wide range of communications materials in a variety of styles and formats
  • Experience from project management
  • Experience from crisis management and emergency preparedness work
  • Experience from extractive industries in Ghana or Africa is a plus
