Our HSSEQ team is looking for a Senior HSSE Engineer to strengthen our organisation in Oslo, Norway and to support the development of our oil discovery offshore in Ghana.

The person taking this role will be responsible for ensuring that the drilling and wells operations (D&W) are planned and performed to minimise the risk of incidents and serious near-misses that may result in personal injury or environmental damage. The role requires some travelling and working in Ghana.

Responsibilities and tasks

Responsibilities and tasks include but are not limited to:

  • The position is organised within the HSSE department, with daily tasks and reporting to D&W Manager
  • The position requires that the working hours are shared between Oslo and Ghana
  • Keeping abreast of relevant legislation, regulations, corporate requirements and standards
  • Assuring full compliance to HSSE related legislation, regulations, corporate requirements and management system(s) within D&W
  • Ensuring that HSSE team contributes to and uses global best practices
  • Working in cooperation with the Drilling Contractor and AE’s organisation in Ghana
  • Coordinating the effective implementation of AE’s Emergency Response Plan & Organisation within D&W
  • Initiating and ensuring that investigations of incidents, accidents, (serious) near misses and unsafe working conditions are conducted in a complete and timely manner providing remedial actions to achieve effective incident prevention and avoidance of losses
  • Actively supporting and promoting a proactive positive HSSE culture within the entire organisation (incl. contractors)

Qualifications & personal attributes

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in engineering science
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working with Drilling and Wells and HSSE
  • Good knowledge of D&W safety standards, systems and procedures
  • Experience in Health, Safety, Security & Environmental Management Systems, Risk Assessments, HSSE standards
  • Knowledge on applicable government, industry and corporate guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills in English both orally and in writing
  • Good level of written and spoken Norwegian is an advantage
  • Ability to work under pressure with positive working attitude and strong sense of responsibility
  • Strong cross-functional team work skills with demonstrated ability to build productive working relationships
  • Ability to help department leaders implement preventive and corrective measures efficiently and to intervene promptly
